CERN/Ångström Laboratory

A manufacturing project has been completed in Uppsala on behalf of the Ångström Laboratory/FREIA and CERN. The project involved the production of three lifting beams and a transport frame.

Technical Specifications and Applications

  • Use: The manufactured equipment is intended for handling cryostat tubes.

  • Environment: The tubes are used in environments with temperatures close to absolute zero.

  • Function: The design enables measurements inside superconducting magnets.

  • Requirements: Manufacturing has been carried out in accordance with strict requirements regarding dimensional and welding tolerances tailored for research equipment.

Project Implementation

The work was carried out by UMB's fitters and welders under the supervision of Johan Dahlström.

About the FREIA Laboratory

The FREIA Laboratory is a facility for the development and testing of technology for particle accelerators. Its activities include testing superconducting magnets and related equipment, which are supplied to, among others, the international research facility CERN. The laboratory’s research areas include particle physics and medical technology.
